| WHAT IS QI GONG?
Qi Gong is derived from two Chinese words, QI translated as energy or ‘life force’, that which keeps us alive and GONG which means work out or practice. Qi Gong there means an exercise which keeps the energy moving through out the body. It keeps the blood flowing or circulating which in itself makes one feel alive The movements were discovered by sages watching animals perform some of their routine activities during the day. That is why we have names of qi gong forms which describe the birds, animals, and nature. There is what they call ‘dance of the crane’, or ‘swimming dragon’, or ‘snake meditation’ or such descriptive terms. The exercise depends on 5 important practices: regulation of breathing, posture, control of mental activity or concentration, visualization, slow meditative movements, and quiet relaxation of the whole body. Qi gong is one component of what is called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been practiced for 3000-5000 years. For the maintenance of health and vitality this series of exercises are practiced to enhance the movement of energy throughout the body. The practice is both preventive care, promotion of health, as well as curative for a number of disease entities. Qi gong for medical conditions is practiced under expert medical guidance. Qi gong practice under the Healing Touch Shiatsu umbrella will only be for health and vitality, an adjunct to your healthy life style changes. NOTE: This is not medical advice.
